On February 12, 2026 over 20 nonprofit leaders gathered for our 1st Nonprofit Leaders Roundtable of the year at the John D. Spreckels Center. A special thank you to PAWS of Coronado for hosting and bringing the guest of honor, Ambrose.
Each year, the Nonprofit Institute at USD presents its "State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report" at the Governance Symposium. This year, with the symposium date changed, they presented the findings via a webinar.
About the State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report: In 2025, nonprofits across San Diego County met the moment through creativity, collaboration, and deep community commitment. As the challenges ahead continue to evolve, clearly communicating the importance and impact of the nonprofit sector has never been more critical. The Annual State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report is a comprehensive, data-driven look at the nonprofit sector in San Diego County. This timely analysis provides insights you can use to advocate for your organization, inform strategy, and strengthen your case with funders and policymakers.
The report draws on:
Insights from more than 500 nonprofit leaders and staff across the region
Ongoing public opinion polling
The latest nonprofit data from the IRS and California Employment Development Department (EDD)
We invited Coronado’s nonprofit leaders to watch the webinar as a group and then discuss how the findings relate to our community and our efforts. Following the webinar, The Nonprofit Institute, whose Executive Director, Dr. Laura Deitrick, is both a Coronado resident and an advisor for the Coronado Community Foundation, sent the link to the full 2025 State of Nonprofits & Philanthropy Report. For those who missed it or are interested in the data, the link provides the report presented during the webinar. We had some good take-aways and the group found the data intriguing.

Following the webinar, each nonprofit leader in attendance shared their upcoming events and their personal takeaways from the presentation.
Jackie Williams and Greg Curtin from PAWS promoted their March 7th Ruff Run, supporting PAWS, and discussed a future partnership with the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra as an example of collaborations in our community.
Carl Luna discussed the Friends of the Coronado Library activities and suggested that each of the Coronado nonprofits expand their “ask” reach across the bridge, specifically for grants and/or corporate support.
Cathy Brown from the Coronado Promenade Series thanked the many nonprofits and business sponsors for the 2026 Concert Series, many of whom are collaborating to host concerts. She had a suggestion for nonprofits to reach out for corporate grants from companies that advertised in the Super Bowl for example (large budgets).
The Coronado Community Foundation announced the offer to pay for one leader from each Coronado's nonprofit organizations to attend the Nonprofit Institute Governance Symposium and Conference, which will be held on USD's campus
April 1st and April 2nd. Last year, CCF hosted 15 nonprofits for the symposium and it was a great 2 days of learning and connection. Details about the 2026 Nonprofit and Governance Symposium are here.
