Events in the Tents Flourish Thanks to CCF Grant Support

This past fall, we proudly distributed just over $42,000 in Arts and Culture Grants. With grant submissions supporting local music, performing arts, and arts education, as well as beloved cultural events, our CCF Board of Directors unanimously approved 7 nonprofit grants. Through these grants, CCF supported a wide range of programs and initiatives that bring arts and culture to life across Coronado, including the Coronado Floral Association's first-ever "Events in the Tents" at the 104th Coronado Flower Show.

The following reflections and insights are shared by Coronado Floral Association Co-President Colby Freer, highlighting the impact of this exciting new addition to one of Coronado's most cherished traditions.

"The 104th Coronado Flower Show: Events in the Tents strengthened the artistic and cultural impact of the Coronado Flower Show by bringing floral arts and community education to the forefront in a meaningful and accessible way. Floral arts have always been a central part of Coronado’s cultural identity, offering beauty, creativity, and connection to residents of all ages. This initiative expanded that cultural exposure by giving the public direct access to floral design techniques, horticultural craftsmanship, and the creative processes that make the Flower Show unique."

Colby Freer stated, " Although education has always been part of the Coronado Floral Association's mission, this aspect of the organization's work became less visible over time. The 2025-2026 CFA Board restored and elevated this legacy through structured cultural programming inspired by its year-round Friends and Flowers educational series. Events in the Tents ensured that the tradition of floral arts and horticulture education was no longer hidden but brought clearly to the forefront.

The program included floral arts demonstrations led by local florists, short educational sessions by division experts (Roses, Bonsai, Horticulture, Succulents, Floral Design), hands-on youth activities focused on gardening and environmental awareness, and presentation slots for Coronado nonprofits to connect their missions to nature, culture, and community wellness. Local clubs and creative groups were also invited to host introductory sessions that built connection through shared creative experiences. A small wellness corner provided a space for rest and reflection for attendees.

Events in the Tents transformed the Flower Show into a living arts and culture classroom, inviting residents of all ages to engage with creativity, floral design, horticultural knowledge, and environmental appreciation in an interactive and inspiring way."
