The Coronado Community Foundation proudly sponsored Coronado Nonprofit leaders to attend the 2-day Nonprofit Leadership and Governance Symposium.  The event, held at USD and hosted by the Nonprofit Institute, brought Nonprofit leaders, Board Presidents, researchers, and educators together for learning, engagement and networking.

We had a great time hearing from thought leaders across the sector, learning engagement and fundraising strategies, and taking away governance best practices to employ with our designated organizations.

Fun to see so many Coronado nonprofits well represented!

Coronado Nonprofit Leaders Come Together for the Nonprofit Leadership and

Governance Symposium Published in the Coronado Eagle & Journal February 5, 2025

Every year, under the direction of Coronado’s own Dr. Laura Deitrick, the Nonprofit Institute at

the University of San Diego hosts a gathering of regional leaders (over 300 attendees!) in a

signature event for the nonprofit sector. This year, the Coronado Community Foundation invited

and funded local nonprofit leaders to attend the 21st Annual Nonprofit Leadership and

Governance Symposium as a cohort. “In Coronado, we are lucky to have such a great

ecosystem of nonprofit organizations,” commented Michelle Gilmore, CEO. “CCF is dedicated to

strengthening our nonprofits and one way we could do that was to bring our leaders together for

this symposium.”

Over ten organizations represented Coronado at the event and participated in interactive

workshops, shared ideas and experiences (and lunch!), and discovered how strong governance

and leadership can drive their organizations and the community of Coronado forward.

Samantha Hagan-Lingad, VP of Programs at United Through Reading, noted, “I'm excited to

bring back everything I’ve learned to benefit United Through Reading. The sessions gave us so

much to work with—from tapping into the power of AI, to learning how to manage crises.” She

went on to say, “What truly stood out, though, was the chance to connect with others in the

nonprofit world, sharing experiences, and gaining fresh perspectives on challenges we face

every day. I'm incredibly grateful to the Coronado Community Foundation for sponsoring my

attendance and making this invaluable experience possible.” See Full Article in Coronado Eagle & Journal here: Read More
