We are proud to announce that the first official “Coronado Seniors A GoGo” ride took place on Monday, November 17, marking the return of a much-needed transportation service for Coronado’s older adults. This milestone was made possible through our partnership with ElderHelp of San Diego, a nonprofit with 50 years of experience supporting seniors’ independence and connection.

The former Out N’ About volunteer ride program, which ended in 2020, and the subsequent six-month Circuit shuttle pilot that concluded in December 2024, left a gap in free local

transportation for seniors and caregivers. After researching solutions and potential partners, we connected with ElderHelp, whose Seniors A GoGo program was already established but in need of volunteer drivers to meet Coronado’s demand.

Thanks to new volunteer recruitment and initial donations to our Neighbors in Need: Serving Seniors and Caregivers Fund, Coronado seniors now have access to free, safe, and friendly rides for errands, medical appointments, and social visits. The Seniors A GoGo program, hosted and managed by ElderHelp of San Diego, is a trusted, volunteer-driven, door-through-door service that helps older adults maintain independence, stay engaged, and navigate their daily needs with confidence. Eligible riders must be at least 60 years old and able to get in and out of a vehicle with minimal assistance.

Our amazing volunteer driver Jim Jamison, who provided the inaugural ride, shared:

“This is a wonderful program for our Coronado seniors who need transportation, and a great opportunity for volunteer drivers to meet our neighbors. I truly believe the program is more than just a ride—it strengthens our community.”

We are actively expanding the program and recruiting additional volunteer drivers. Upcoming enhancements include friendly visits, grocery and prescription pickups, and other supportive services. Plans already include offering friendly visits, grocery and prescription pickups in addition to rides. As the program grows, so will opportunities for seniors to benefit, volunteers to connect, and the community support with resources to help reduce senior isolation across Coronado. More funds are needed to expand this program so please consider donating as part of your end of year giving. To show your support, please visit our website and make a gift.

Donations may also be made by check, through a donor-advised fund (DAF), a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), or by donating stock or other securities.
