Like the opening movement of a beautiful symphony, the evening began with anticipation and warmth as donors and friends gathered for Mon Valentin, a Valentine’s Day concert performed by the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra. The night set the tone for an unforgettable performance, where music, community, and gratitude came together in perfect harmony.
The orchestra’s performance was elevated by the artistry of renowned cellist Paul Tseng, whose presence added a virtuosic solo line to the evening’s musical score. Tseng performed three captivating works with the Philharmonia, his cello weaving rich melodies through the orchestra and captivating the audience from the first note.
Guests were truly moved by the ensemble’s talent, but one moment in particular struck a romantic chord. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Tseng offered a heartfelt dedication performance to his wife, creating a tender and memorable highlight that resonated throughout the Performing Arts Center.
The Coronado Community Foundation hosts quarterly donor appreciation events to thank and gather supporters. This gathering offered the perfect opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day while sharing an evening of music and connection with the community.
The Coronado Times shared the following in its event promotion:
The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra held a special Valentine’s Day concert featuring internationally acclaimed cellist Paul Tseng as guest soloist. The romantic evening, Mon Valentin, took place on February 14 and celebrated passion, elegance, and musical artistry.
Tseng performed two beloved masterpieces of the cello repertoire: Cello Concerto No. 1, a work of dazzling virtuosity and emotional intensity, and Élégie, a deeply expressive meditation on longing and beauty. Together, these works offered a program rich in lyricism and romantic depth — perfectly suited for an evening devoted to love and music.
An internationally recognized artist, Tseng has appeared in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Cairo Royal Opera House. A prize-winning chamber musician, he is a member of the Delphian Trio and holds degrees from The Juilliard School and the Peabody Conservatory. Tseng also serves as Artistic Director of the San Diego Music Society, where he continues to champion innovative and inspiring musical experiences.
